Regional Hospice provides bereavement services to families coping with the death of a loved one through its Healing Hearts Program. The Program takes place at our Center for Comfort Care & Healing at 30 Milestone Road in Danbury, Connecticut. For those who had Regional Hospice’s services and for the general public. *preregistration is required.
Healing Hearts provides an opportunity for emotional healing. Individuals and families receive support from social workers, trained volunteers and, more importantly, other grieving people. The family-friendly space and our compassionate, professionally trained facilitators offer a comforting environment for anyone who is experiencing the process of grief and loss.
Healing Hearts serves Western Connecticut and nearby New York and is solely funded by donations. Support groups, social groups, workshops and memorial events for children, adults, families and caregivers occur regularly throughout the year at our Center.
Through our Healing Hearts Program, children and families have a safe place to begin healing. They start to understand their feelings as they face the challenge of rebuilding their lives with meaning and hope.
Bereavement groups can be important tools in helping young children grieve. Activities are based on developmental understanding and provide meaningful opportunities for healing. A group for the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) takes place while children meet in their age-appropriate support groups.
Grief is challenging and takes many forms. It can be overwhelming physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Perhaps you are sleeping more than usual or find that you are unable to fall or stay asleep. You notice changes in your appetite. Along with a roller coaster of emotions, thoughts and memories are unexpectedly triggered. Spiritual questions may arise.
The duration and intensity of grief are unique for each individual, as is the type of grief someone is experiencing. As you move along your journey towards hope and healing, being with others who are experiencing what you are can provide comfort and support.
Healing Hearts adult grief support groups are designed to address specific losses. We have groups for:
